Call for papers - "Monstrous wonders an...






Effervescences Médiévales, a collaborative and interdisciplinary platform on the Middle Ages for medievalist researchers, invites you to participate in its third call for publications. The articles will be published on our site and then, at the end of the deadline, compiled in the form of an open access digital journal.



For its third call for publications, the Effervescences Médiévales team invites you to submit an article on the following theme: "Monstrous wonders and marvelous monsters" . Through this theme, we will approach the historical, artistic, legendary and literary representations of these creatures in the Middle Ages. Your contribution may deal with the following topics:



Menageries in the Middle Ages.

Explorers' stories.

The medieval bestiary.

Teratology.

The disguise: masks and costumes.

Terrestrial, maritime and celestial legends.

Groups of monstrous wonders and groups of marvelous monsters (peoples, animals, etc.).

Objects presenting monsters but retaining a marvelous function (musical instruments, reliquaries, boxes, statuary,…).

Objects presenting wonders but retaining a monstrous function (weapons, figureheads of boats,…).

The physical and moral representation of these creatures, between seduction and repulsion.

The function of these artistic or literary representations (defense, magic, apotropaic power,…).

Your contribution may also deal with adjacent subjects related to our research theme. In an interdisciplinary approach, all contributions from specialists working on the Middle Ages are awaited.

Articles will be published as they are submitted on our site. Your contribution should be sent to the following address effervescencesmedievales@gmail.com until January 31, 2022 inclusive, along with a short biography.



Your article, with a minimum of 10,000 characters and limited to 20,000 characters (notes included), will meet the editorial standards presented below:



Instructions for authors



Articles are submitted in electronic form (attached file in .odt, .doc format) to the following address: effervescencesmedievales@gmail.com



Editorial standards



The articles are presented in the simplest form possible, with an economy of titles and sub-titles.

Brief quotes, between French quotation marks ("and"), will be incorporated into the text. Long quotes, indented, will not be surrounded by quotation marks.

Italics will be used for titles of books or journals.

The illustrations, copyright free, are preferably in .jpeg format. They are limited to 5 images.

To help with indexing, authors are asked to suggest 5 keywords.

The author must indicate his professional biographical references (function, institution of affiliation, etc.).



Your article will be preceded by the announcement of the plan, and the different parts of the article will be clearly marked with titles (including the introduction and conclusion). A bibliography will be indicated at the end of the article.

Books: First name LAST NAME, title , place of publication, year, page.



Journal articles : First name LAST NAME, “ article title ”, journal title, year, number / volume, page.



Collective works : First name LAST NAME, “ title of the article” , initial of the first name and LAST NAME of the scientific editors, title , place of publication, year, page.



Published texts : First name LAST NAME, title , initial of the first name and LAST NAME of the scientific editor (preceded by ed., Trans., Introd.), Place of publication, year, number / volume, page.



Electronic journals: First name LAST NAME, “ article title ”, journal title, year, number / volume, page. URL address.



Illustrations: First name LAST NAME, title of the work, year. City, site / institution, (manuscript side, folio) or / and url link.



Intellectual property: As an author, you keep all of your rights (moral and economic rights) on your publications.
